This presentation was given as a short talk at the 'What’s Next for Open Source?', a set of workshops associated with the 'OSPOs for Good 2024' event held by the United Nations. The workshops were held on 11th July 2024. The program is available at https://events.linuxfoundation.org/whatsnext4oss/program/schedule/.

The talk describes the work of the Swedish Pathogens Portal. In particular, how the portal works to; accelerate Swedish research, maximise the impact of that research, and help to bring different parts of society together.

The Swedish Pathogens Portal is maintained by the SciLifeLab Data Centre. It was initially launched in June 2020 as the Swedish COVID-19 Data Portal. It was the first national node of the European COVID-19 Data Platform. The scope of the Portal was expanded in 2022, when it became part of the SciLifeLab Pandemic Preparedness Program. Specifically, the portal began to include data on pathogens other than SARS-CoV-2 and general pandemic preparedness topics (e.g. antibiotic resistance). The portal relaunched in 2023 as the Swedish Pathogens Portal in order to ensure that the scope of the portal was clear for users.

The Swedish Pathogens Portal accelerates research primarily by making research resources (e.g. data and tools) as Open and FAIR as possible. It includes general guidance on following best practices in research data management, databases of openly available research resources, a Helpdesk to provide direct support, articles related to Open science, and data dashboards that allow data to be visualised in near-real time.
