The future of data integration? Shared recipes and templates for FAIR data, tools, and services
This talk was presented at a cross-functional meeting for staff at National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS) on 13 March 2025. It was presented by Wolmar Nyberg Åkerström at NBIS’ Data Management Unit.
Description of the talk
The talk made a case for using the FAIR principles as a frame of reference for desirable characteristics of the various bioinformatics assets that can support effective data integrations throughout the data processing life cycle. The presentation covered examples of efforts to extend the original FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship to other types of research assets—such as code, research software and workflows. It also showcased examples of activities in ELIXIR’s Interoperability Platform and NBIS Data Management Unit that aim to increase both efficiency and quality through shared guideliens, recipes and templates.
