This presentation was given as Module 4 workshop for the 1hp course ‘Open Science in the Swedish Context’ https://scilifelab-training.github.io/open-science/2503/.

The course was designed to teach DDLS research school scientists how to apply Swedish Open Science standards in their daily research. The entire course covered key stages of the research lifecycle, from planning a research project, to sharing results, to science communication and researcher evaluation. Completing this training is expected to prepare DDLS students to lead the global shift toward open and collaborative research.

Module 4 "Open Science in Researcher Evaluation", presented on 20 March 2025, covered the current practices in the researcher's evaluation, mostly based on the number of publications and citation, the history of criticism of these practices and present movements, with the focus of CoARA. I also presented the involvement of research, support and funding institutions in Sweden and the position of SciLifeLab in working towards changes in current assessment practices. A few examples of how Open Science practices already led to success in the research world completed the presentation.

The workshop also contained two polls, which results are included in the presentation and two exercises based on discussion in groups, followed by general summary.
