This presentation was prepared for and presented virtually at the SciLifeLab Data Management Seminar Series on 10 June 2025, during a session titled "Global impact of sharing Open Educational Materials: Examples from Sweden and Africa."

This presentation offers an introduction to the world of OER. It explores what OER is, how it differs from traditional educational material, and its close relationship with the principles of open science. It also provides practical guidance for educators and researchers on how to engage with OER —both as creators and as adopters—. In it, the benefits of OER, how to FAIRify training material, and how to find and reuse OER are highlighted.

SciLifeLab Data Management seminar series is an event series by the SciLifeLab Data Centre and the NBIS joint Data Management team.

The goal of the events in this seminar series is to provide interesting interactive seminars around topics related to Research Data Management and Open Science in general, and to foster discussions around best practices.
